Beach Volleyball "How To" Skills, Drills & Play

Keaton Proud

  • Team Ontario Beach 16U Assistant Coach (2018)
  • Regional High-Performance Coach, 14U Boys (2017)
  • Pegasus Beach Volleyball, Co-Founder and Head Coach (2016 – Current)
  • Head Coach at Pegasus Volleyball Club (2016 – Current)

I started playing volleyball at a young age, around Grade 5 on my elementary school team. By Grade 8, I was aware of my passion for the game and I looked for other opportunities to play. I joined a variety of programs and along the way was lucky to work with a great group of coaches. These coaches pushed me towards club volleyball in the OVA, playing for a team in Richmond Hill. I continued to look for higher level training and was part of the OVA Centre of Excellence training program in 2013. In the indoor volleyball off-season I spent my time training on the beach (along with Patrick Zumpano), where I fell in love with beach volleyball. My team's strong finishes in our last years playing club volleyball (11th in Canada in 2013 and 4th in Ontario in 2014) demonstrated our hard work over the years.

I started coaching volleyball while I was still an athlete, working with younger club teams as well as my high school junior teams. I worked towards becoming a paid coach with several summer programs in Toronto (Richmond Hill Thundercats and PVB), for both beach and indoor volleyball. After moving to Kingston, I started working with Pegasus Volleyball. I helped start their youth Beach Volleyball programs and after completing my early coaching levels, worked towards coaching higher-level athletes. Over the past summers, I have coached our Regional High-Performance youth athletes and am currently an Assistant Coach with Team Ontario Beach 16U. I'm excited to work with another group of athletes on the beach and bring the concepts I have learned over the past 11 years to our sessions!
